Walk east from the car park along the old Saltergate road, then take the bridleway across Allerston High Moor towards the distinctive cone of Blakey Topping. Climb it from the north by the standing stones, then return by the forest edge and the Old Wife's Way back to the road. Big views over the Hole of Horcum and Newton Dale.

  • One short steep climb
  • Moorland tracks, some wet ground
  • Combine with the Hole of Horcum walk for a long day
