Blakey Topping
A conical hill dropped by the giant Wade, ringed by standing stones and views into the Hole of Horcum.
Blakey Topping rises abruptly from Allerston High Moor east of the Hole of Horcum, and legend says the giant Wade scooped the Hole out and threw the earth here. Geologists prefer erosion, but the hill is striking either way, with three standing stones at its foot that may be the remains of a Bronze Age circle. Walk in from the Saltergate car park, an hour each way.
