Roseberry Topping

Roseberry Topping is only 320 metres high but its half-collapsed summit cone stands alone above the Cleveland plain, so the views take in Teesside, the Pennines and the whole northern escarpment of the moors. The odd shape is the result of a 1912 mining collapse.

The climb from the National Trust car park at Newton-under-Roseberry takes about 40 minutes. It is steep but short, and there are gentler paths through Newton Wood. Bluebells in May, heather in August.
