Roseberry Topping
The distinctive mini-Matterhorn peak on the northern edge of the moors, with huge views for a short climb.
A climb from Cook's boyhood village to the obelisk on Easby Moor, with Roseberry Topping across the valley.

Leave Great Ayton past the school Cook attended, cross the railway and climb through Ayton Banks woods onto Easby Moor. The 16-metre monument was raised in 1827 and looks across to Roseberry Topping and out to the coast. Return via Gribdale Gate and the lanes, or extend to Roseberry Topping along the Cleveland Way for a big day.
