Great Ayton
Captain Cook's boyhood village under Roseberry Topping
Great Ayton is a large village on the River Leven where James Cook went to school; the schoolroom is now a small museum. The Cook monument on Easby Moor and the distinctive peak of Roseberry Topping both rise above the village.
High Green and Low Green both have riverside benches and ice cream, which matters after a climb.
