Since 1955 walkers have crossed the moors from Osmotherley to Ravenscar in a single push, traditionally starting at night. The route follows the Cleveland Hills, Bloworth Crossing, the Lion Inn and Fylingdales Moor. Finish in 24 hours and you are entitled to call yourself a Dirger and wear a black-edged badge.

Not a walk for the unprepared: it is long, boggy and remote, and a support party at road crossings makes all the difference.

  • 40 miles with about 1,500 metres of ascent
  • Best attempted in a small group with support
  • The Lyke Wake Club records completions
