Lyke Wake Walk
The famous 40-mile challenge across the moors from west to east coast, to be completed inside 24 hours.

Since 1955 walkers have crossed the moors from Osmotherley to Ravenscar in a single push, traditionally starting at night. The route follows the Cleveland Hills, Bloworth Crossing, the Lion Inn and Fylingdales Moor. Finish in 24 hours, send in a report of your crossing and you can join the Lyke Wake Club as a Dirger (or a Witch), with a black-edged condolence card and a coffin-shaped badge.
Not a walk for the unprepared: it is long, boggy and remote, and a support party at road crossings makes all the difference.
