Rievaulx Abbey
One of the most complete and beautiful Cistercian abbeys in England, in a wooded valley near Helmsley.
National Trail in a horseshoe around the moors: 109 miles of escarpment and sea cliff over about nine days.

The Cleveland Way runs from Helmsley west along the escarpment edge over Sutton Bank and the Cleveland Hills, north to Roseberry Topping, then reaches the coast at Saltburn and turns south along the cliffs through Staithes, Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and Scarborough to Filey Brigg.
Most people take eight to ten days. There are baggage carriers and plenty of accommodation, and the route can be picked off in sections using the Moorsbus and the Esk Valley railway. Every walk on this site that touches the escarpment or the coast is a taste of it.
