Yorkshire Gliding Club
Trial gliding flights launched from the edge of Sutton Bank, riding the ridge lift above the Vale of York.
The Yorkshire Gliding Club has flown from the top of Sutton Bank since 1934, and the escarpment provides ridge lift on a westerly wind that keeps gliders aloft for hours. Trial flights with an instructor, from £140, are weather dependent and limited in number each day, so book one to two months ahead. The Gliders Nest cafe in the clubhouse is open to walkers from Wednesday to Sunday.
