The railway closed in 1965 and its trackbed is now a cycle and walking route from Whitby through Hawsker and Robin Hood's Bay to Ravenscar, Cloughton and Scarborough. Gradients are gentle, surfaces vary from tarmac to rough cinder, and the section around Robin Hood's Bay and Ravenscar has the best coastal views. Bike hire is available in Whitby and at Hawsker.
