Walk up to the West Cliff past the whalebone arch and Captain Cook statue, then take the cliff lift or steps down to the beach. At low tide it is sand all the way to Sandsend, where the beck runs out onto the shore and there are cafes and a pub.

Return the same way, or catch the bus back from the main road.

  • Check tide times; use the cliff-top path if the tide is in
  • Flat and easy underfoot
  • Dogs restricted on parts of the beach in summer
