St Gregory's Minster and Kirkdale Cave
A Saxon church with the finest pre-Conquest sundial in England, beside a cave full of Ice Age hyenas.
A Saxon church, an Ice Age cave and a wooded valley whose stream vanishes underground.

From the minster walk up the lane past Kirkdale Cave and into the woods along Hodge Beck, which runs dry in summer as the water sinks into the limestone. Follow the valley north to the ford at Skiplam and return over the fields by Welburn Hall. Short, sheltered and full of interest.
