Walk south from the centre along the Cleveland Way on the cliff edge, past the gliding club, to the top of the Kilburn White Horse. Retrace a short way and take the path down through Garbutt Wood nature reserve to Gormire Lake, a lake with no visible inlet or outlet that sits beneath the escarpment.

Climb back to the cliff top by the path north of the lake and return to the centre. The escarpment section is level and suitable for everyone; the lake section has a steep descent and climb.

  • Cafe, toilets and bike hire at the centre
  • The out-and-back to the White Horse alone is flat and pushchair friendly
  • Watch for gliders launching alongside the path
