Rosedale Chimney Bank
One of the steepest roads in England, 1 in 3 at its worst, and a legendary climb for cyclists.
Chimney Bank climbs 190 metres out of Rosedale Abbey in under a mile, with hairpins at 33 per cent, and is a fixture of every list of Britain's hardest cycling climbs. The chimney it was named for, part of the ironstone works, was demolished in 1972. At the top are the Bank Top kilns, the railway trackbed walk and a car park with views the length of the dale.
