Rosedale Abbey
Quiet dale village ringed by the remains of a Victorian ironstone industry
Rosedale Abbey is a peaceful village in a deep dale, though its name is the only thing left of the medieval priory. In the 1800s this was an industrial valley, and the ruined calcining kilns and the old mineral railway that contours the dale head now make some of the best walking on the moors.
Rosedale Chimney Bank, the road climbing west out of the village, is one of the steepest in England at 1 in 3 and a rite of passage for cyclists.
