Rosedale ironstone kilns and railway

From 1861 Rosedale produced millions of tons of ironstone, roasted in calcining kilns and hauled by railway around the dale head and over the moors to Teesside. The industry died in 1926 and the moor has quietly reclaimed the workings. The kilns at Bank Top and East Mines are huge and ruinous, and the trackbed gives a flat walk with tremendous views.
