Ralph Cross and Fat Betty

Young Ralph Cross stands nine feet tall beside the Rosedale road on Westerdale Moor at 428 metres, the highest point on the road system, and is the symbol of the North York Moors National Park. Travellers traditionally left a coin on top for the next needy passer-by. Half a mile east, Fat Betty (White Cross) is a squat medieval marker whitewashed by tradition, and the custom is to leave a sweet and take one. Both are a short walk from lay-bys and the views are immense.
