Walk down through Staithes to the harbour, turn up Church Street and follow the Cleveland Way south-east along the cliff top to Port Mulgrave. The old ironstone harbour below has been cut off by landslips that destroyed the path and steps. Do not try to climb down unless the official path has reopened, and never use makeshift ropes. The foreshore is famous among fossil hunters for its ammonites.
Return the same way or by the inland footpath through Hinderwell.
