Walk down through Staithes and cross the footbridge to Cowbar, then follow the Cleveland Way south over the cliff to Port Mulgrave. The old ironstone harbour below is reached by a steep and unofficial path, and the foreshore is famous among fossil hunters for its ammonites.

Return the same way or by the inland footpath through Hinderwell.

  • Cliff path with steep sections and drops
  • Port Mulgrave beach descent is rough; only for the sure-footed
  • Ice cream in Staithes on return
