Thornton-le-Dale's stream runs alongside the main street, crossed by little bridges to the houses on the far side. The thatched cottage at the beck end is on countless postcards and biscuit tins.

There is a village green with medieval stocks and market cross, a handful of tea rooms, and Dalby Forest a few minutes to the north.
