Rievaulx Terrace
A curving grass terrace with two Georgian temples and framed views down onto Rievaulx Abbey.
Rievaulx Terrace was laid out in the 1750s by the Duncombe family purely for the pleasure of walking its half-mile of turf between two temples and glimpsing the abbey ruins through gaps in the trees below. The Ionic temple has a painted ceiling and a table laid for a Georgian picnic. National Trust, with a separate entrance from the abbey on the road above.
