Rievaulx Terrace

Rievaulx Terrace was laid out in the 1750s by the Duncombe family purely for the pleasure of walking its half-mile of turf between two temples and glimpsing the abbey ruins through gaps in the trees below. The Ionic temple has a painted ceiling and a table laid for a Georgian picnic. Owned by the National Trust and run by English Heritage since 2026, with a separate entrance from the abbey on the road above and a joint ticket for both.
