Byland Abbey

Byland was the third of the great Yorkshire Cistercian houses and its church, finished around 1195, was 100 metres long. The west front still stands with the lower half of an enormous rose window that inspired the one at York Minster. The floor tiles, still in place in parts of the church, are the finest medieval tiled floor in England. Quieter than Rievaulx and Fountains and a good pairing with the Kilburn White Horse.
