Robin Hood's Bay

Robin Hood's Bay drops from the cliff top to the sea in a maze of stepped alleys, red-roofed cottages and hidden passages that once made it a smugglers' paradise. Park at the top and walk down; the lower village is car-free by necessity.

At low tide the bay reveals a huge rocky scar rich in ammonites and rock pools. The village is the finishing point of Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk, and tradition is to dip your boots in the sea at the slipway.
