Whitby Museum and Pannett Park

Whitby Museum was founded in 1823 by the town's Literary and Philosophical Society and has kept its Victorian cabinet-of-curiosities character. The fossil gallery holds giant ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs from the local cliffs, and there are rooms of ship models, whaling relics, Captain Cook material, Whitby jet and the Hand of Glory, a pickled hand once used by burglars. Pannett Park outside has gardens, a play area and views over the town.
