Captain Cook Memorial Museum

Cook came to Whitby at eighteen to learn seamanship with the Quaker shipowner John Walker, and this is Walker's house on the harbourside where the apprentices slept in the attic. The museum has letters, drawings, maps and artefacts from the three great voyages, and the attic is still there. Small, absorbing and right in the old town.
