Whitby to Robin Hood's Bay on the Cleveland Way
The classic clifftop day: abbey to bay past Saltwick, the lighthouse and the fog signal, with a bus back.
Whitby claims the best fish and chips in Britain, and the queues on Pier Road suggest it might be right.

You cannot visit Whitby without eating fish and chips. The Magpie Cafe on Pier Road is the famous one, with a queue to prove it, but there are a dozen good chippies around the harbour and most fry haddock landed that morning. Eat them on the pier and guard against the gulls.
For something different try Whitby crab, kippers from Fortune's smokehouse on Henrietta Street, or a pint from the Whitby Brewery next to the abbey.
