Scaling Dam is the largest body of water in the National Park, beside the A171 between Guisborough and Whitby. The western end is a nature reserve with a bird hide, the eastern end has a sailing club, and a level path runs along the northern shore. Wildfowl in winter, ospreys occasionally on passage.
