Sandsend beach

Three miles of sand from Whitby to Sandsend, with the best rock pools at the far end.

Sandsend is the quieter end of Whitby's beach, a small village where a beck runs out under the road onto the sand. At low tide you can walk the whole way from Whitby's West Cliff along the beach. Beyond the village the old railway cuttings and alum quarries make a good cliff walk towards Kettleness, and there are rock pools and fossils under the cliffs.
