Kirkleatham Museum

Kirkleatham Museum occupies the Old Hall, a Queen Anne building of 1709 built as a free school by the Turner family, in a village of almshouses and follies just south of Redcar. Its star exhibit is the Saxon Princess collection, the grave goods of a 7th-century Anglo-Saxon royal burial discovered at nearby Loftus, including a gold and garnet pendant and a rare bed burial.

Other galleries cover the ironstone and steel industries of Cleveland, Redcar's seaside history and the Second World War, and there is a changing programme of exhibitions, a café and grounds to explore. Well worth an hour or two if the weather turns on the coast.
