The Beck Isle Museum packs 27 rooms with the everyday life of Ryedale over two centuries: a barber's, a printer's, a cobbler's, a pub, a Victorian kitchen, a schoolroom and the largest collection of photographs by Sydney Smith, who recorded moorland life between the wars. It is run entirely by volunteers.
