Levisham is a single wide street of stone houses and a pub, the Horseshoe Inn, at the end of a road that goes nowhere else. The station on the steam railway is a mile and a half below in the gorge, the Hole of Horcum is a two-mile walk over Levisham Moor, and the ruined church of St Mary stands alone in the valley below the village.
