Runswick Bay, Robin Hood's Bay, Saltwick Bay, Boggle Hole and Skinningrove have no restrictions. Whitby's main beach, Sandsend and Saltburn restrict dogs on the central sections from May to September; the ends of each beach stay open.
Walks
Almost every walk on this site is fine with a dog on a lead. Best off-lead options are the forest tracks at Dalby and Guisborough and the Cinder Track. On open moorland dogs must be on a lead from 1 March to 31 July under the access rules, and always near sheep.
Pubs and cafes
The Lion Inn, the Birch Hall Inn, the Horseshoe at Levisham, the Board at Lealholm, the Fox and Hounds at Sinnington and most village pubs welcome dogs. The tea gardens at Falling Foss and the cafes at Sutton Bank and Danby have outdoor seating.
Attractions
The steam railway carries dogs for a small fee. Dalby Forest, the Moors Centre grounds, Rievaulx Terrace, Duncombe Park parkland and the abbey grounds at Rievaulx and Byland admit dogs on leads; house interiors and museums generally do not.
Rules
Adders are common on the moor in spring and summer and dogs are the usual victims. Keep to paths and know the nearest vet: Whitby, Pickering, Helmsley and Guisborough all have practices.
