Ryedale Folk Museum
Open-air museum of rescued moorland buildings: cottages, workshops, a chapel and a Victorian shop.
Well-preserved motte-and-bailey castle used by medieval kings as a hunting lodge.

Pickering is a textbook motte-and-bailey, with a shell keep on top of the mound, curtain walls and three towers still standing. It was a royal castle and the kings of England hunted in the Forest of Pickering from here. The views from the keep take in the town and the moors beyond.
