The great east window of Gisborough Priory, 30 metres high, is one of the most dramatic monastic fragments in the north, standing at the end of the town's market street with the moors behind. The Bruce family, ancestors of Robert the Bruce, founded it in 1119. The grounds include an Elizabethan dovecote and the Priory Gardens, and the town has a Thursday and Saturday market.
