Grosmont is the northern engine shed of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and the point where it meets the Esk Valley line from Middlesbrough to Whitby. Walk through the tunnel beside the station to the sheds, where you can watch locomotives being coaled and steamed.
The village grew up around ironstone mining. The Rail Trail footpath to Goathland follows George Stephenson's original 1836 route.
