Rosedale Abbey has two large sites in the valley bottom. Hutton-le-Hole, Farndale and Bilsdale have farm sites with basic facilities and big views. Cropton's campsite sits behind the brewery.
On the coast
Whitby has several holiday parks on the cliffs at Saltwick and towards Sandsend. Robin Hood's Bay has sites above the village at Fylingthorpe and Hooks House Farm, with the bay spread out below. Runswick Bay and Staithes have smaller farm sites.
In the forest
Dalby Forest has a Camping in the Forest site with pitches among the pines, and Forestry England runs cabins nearby.
Glamping
Shepherd's huts, pods, yurts and bell tents on farms across the park, particularly around Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside, Rosedale and the Esk Valley. Hostels at Boggle Hole, Whitby, Helmsley and Osmotherley offer camping pods too.
Rules and tips
There is no right to wild camp in England; ask the landowner. Fires are banned on the moor. Book coastal sites early for July and August, and expect midges in the dales on still summer evenings.
