Hawnby is one of the quietest villages in the park, a scatter of red-roofed cottages on a hillside above the River Rye with Hawnby Hill and Easterside rising behind. There is an inn with rooms, a tea room in the old village store and walking in every direction with almost nobody about. Reached by narrow lanes from Helmsley or Osmotherley.
