Glaisdale straggles along the side of its dale from the station by the Esk up to the village centre on the hill. Beggar's Bridge, a single-arched packhorse bridge of 1619 beside the railway, is said to have been built by a local man who made his fortune at sea and came back for the girl he had been too poor to marry. The wooded path through East Arnecliff Wood to Egton Bridge follows an old paved trod.
