Twice-yearly gathering of goths, steampunks and Victorian costume in Dracula's town, with the Halloween edition the bigger of the two.

Whitby Goth Weekend has been drawing the black-clad to the town since 1994. There are bands at the Pavilion, the Bizarre Bazaar alternative market and, above all, the street theatre of thousands of people in extraordinary costume around the harbour and up at the abbey.
The autumn weekend coincides with Halloween and the abbey is usually illuminated. Book accommodation months ahead.
